My mother's roots are in Renovo Pa
My Mother, Pearl Hall Poorman, was from South Renovo PA. I used to spend quite a bit
of time in Renovo. When I was young, visiting family and the Hall-Wertz Reunion up Hall's Run. And when I was
a teenager, playing piano with The Teen Tones at the YMCA and the old Seventh Street School. When I was 20/30 something,
working for Bell Telephone in Renovo, and playing with a combo around town, e.g. the Elks, the Moose, North Bend Hotel, Casa
Loma, etc.
Here's a
few pix of places I knew . . .

Oh hey . . . the North Bend Hotel might have been called the Mountain
view Hotel, officially, but we all called it the North Bend Hotel. Our band had some rip roarin times there!
Two family places close to my heart . . .

Point Breeze, South Renovo PA - The house where Aunt Emma, Aunt Belle & Mom grew up. We
rented it out for years, then sold it to the Frank & Helen Stagoff family in the 1950's. The Guest House,
Barn, Ice House & Servants Quarters were torn down years ago, but most of the old house is still standing (porches
are gone).

Steve & Ken Poorman 2007 Hall-Wertz Reunion
Halls Run Park - where we attended the Hall-Wertz Reunion for many years. It is still held annually
on the second Saturday in August. Jesse Hall is buried in the North Bend Cemetery. I'm going to stop there
after the reunion this year (2008).

To get to the Jesse Hall State Picnic
Area in Hall's Run, follow the West Branch of the Susquehanna River up Water Street in Lock Haven PA 17745 to Susquehanna
Avenue, which starts at the Bell Tower of Lock Haven University. Go North on Susquehanna Avenue, which is PA Route
120. Take 120 North to Renovo PA, about 28 miles. Be careful, watch for rock slides and deer on the Renovo Road.
In Renovo, go to 11th Street and turn left and take PA Route 144 South across the bridge to South Renovo.
In South Renovo, Route 144 will turn right onto Pennsylvania Avenue, and take you through West Renovo to Jesse Hall State
Park, about two miles out of town on your left, just past Barney Run Road. Be careful of little kids when you're
driving down 144, I'm related to just about everyone along that road, and you might see some of my little cousins riding their
bikes along the double yellow line on Halls Run Road. Actually, I don't think that road is wide enough for a double
line in the middle.

Note: My grandfather, Clarence Richard
Hall's biological parents were Taylor Zachary Wertz & Phebe Ann Hall Wertz. But Clarence was adopted by his
uncle and aunt, Everett Franklin Hall & Emma Lousia Wertz Hall because they couldn't have children. Everett
was Phebe's brother, and Emma was Taylor's sister. Another little twist, my grandfather Clarence married his first
cousin, Alice T. Downs, who was Taylor and Emma Wertz' niece, daughter of their sister, Matilda F. Wertz Downs.
Am I my own grandpa, or something? Ha. Check it out Check out some other of our Hall-Wertz residents of the Hall-Wertz & North Bend Cemeteries
